1930s Colonial Anglo Indian Art Deco

metamorphic reclining chair / day bed in tropical teak and cane.

Occasionally one comes across a piece that is exceptional in its rarity, quality, design, appropriate materials or purpose.

This rare piece of Art Deco Anglo - Indian colonial veranda furniture combines all these elements:

the elegance and economy of line of Art Deco, simplicity of design, the adaptation to climate and multiplicity of purpose,

all executed appropriately and timelessly in stunning tropical teak and cane.

Designed for the wide verandas of a southern Indian or Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) tea plantation bunglaow, the pest resitant teak and cane allowed maximum protection plus ventilation in a monsoon climate.

This beautiful piece still has its original cane in excellent condition. It is a rare gem.

A chair, a recliner, or even a day bed, this superb metamorphic piece, although designed for a Veranda in the sub-continent, would be equally at home in a Garden Room, or chosen by an interior designer as a perfect statement piece in a modern skyscraper apartment.
